The FAC, Musicians’ Union and UK Music lead industry response to ‘endemic’ harassment in the workplace
People across the entertainment industries have recently been speaking out about sexism, sexual harassment, bullying and discrimination suffered in the workplace. Thousands have shared their stories across social media using the hashtags #metoo, #himthough and others.
Representing music artists, the Featured Artists’ Coalition joined with the Musicians’ Union, to convene a joined-up response from umbrella body UK Music, to harassment experienced or witnessed anywhere in our industry.
The FAC takes these issues very seriously. We feel that our vital and influential industry, should set standards of care, respect and best practice, across the board. We also support clear, streamlined and professional support for anyone experiencing any form of harassment in the workplace.
The FAC and UK Music therefore support and signpost to the Musicians’ Union’s Safe Space resource for responding to any individual experiences of harassment.
This confidential resource is open to all in the music business, not just MU members. MU provide a clear, independent and universally accessible way to raise any personal experiences to highly experienced responders.
If you work in music and have faced any harassment issues in your workplace, whether you are a musician or working in a music business capacity, you can contact the Musicians’ Union (MU) for confidential advice and support.
Contact safespace@theMU.org for advice or to make a report (anonymously if preferred).
No action will be taken on your behalf without your prior consent.
If you would prefer to talk to the FAC specifically, please call us or email us at email@example.com
This is only the start. The FAC has a Zero Tolerance approach to any form of harassment by or to any of our membership or staff. This should be industry wide and we will continue to work with the MU, Safe Space and Stop2018 towards a positive evolution of the whole industry, to become one which is comprehensively and equally welcoming, fair and safe for all involved.
